Bluewaters Island

Bluewaters is a vibrant lifestyle destination featuring distinctive residential, retail, hospitality, and entertainment options. All who arrive are spoilt for choice.

Home to Ain Dubai, the world’s largest observation wheel, it is also a shopper’s paradise, housing unique retail and dining concepts. Bluewaters’ bridge and multi-mode transport systems make this urban island easy to access.

Bluewaters Island is an artificial island 500 meters (1,600 ft.) off the Jumeirah Beach Residence coastline, near Dubai Marina, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Located across the water from Dubai Marina, Bluewaters Island is split into different areas across residential, retail, leisure and entertainment, hotels and beach clubs.

The record-breaking Ain Dubai observation wheel is the centerpiece of the lifestyle destination, which has more than 200 retail and dining concepts.

The project was approved by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and unveiled on February 13, 2013.

It is built on reclaimed land by Meraas Holding, with dredging work conducted by Van Oord, the Dutch firm known for its work on Palm Jumeirah, at an estimated cost AED 6 billion (1.6 billion USD, including the Ain Dubai, formerly the Dubai Eye).

Construction was originally due to start in April 2013, but actually began on May 20, 2013. It opened in November 2018.

As the name suggests, Bluewaters Island (or Blue Water Island Dubai) is one of the most impressive man-made islands in Dubai located off the coast of JBR. It is a multi-billion project by Meraas featuring the world’s largest observation wheel, Ain Dubai.

Located opposite The Beach, the island is also gearing to become a top tourist site in Dubai with a range of leisure facilities, beach activities, luxurious resorts and restaurants. Moreover, the master plan includes 132 retail shops, Caesars Palace and the happening Cove Beach.

The island features two five-star hotels with direct beach access. Bluewaters also has around 200 beverage and retail and food outlets in the ground level of residential buildings and entertainment section of the island. The total number of residential buildings on the island is 10. Each of these is considered mid-rise and features 15 storeys or fewer.

Whether you're staying in our world-class hotel, visiting friends living on Bluewaters, or simply exploring the island, you're in for a treat. From retail offerings to restaurants to entertainment, we've got something for everyone.

Public Transportation

A driverless train system will soon be operational on the island. This Group Rapid Transit (GRT) system provided by Dutch technology firm, 2getthere will feature 25 vehicles, each will have a capacity of carrying 24 passengers.

By following a dedicated route, the passengers will ultimately connect to the Nakheel Harbour and Tower Metro Station. The automatic transport system will have several connecting stations on the island.

GRT will first connect to a transport hub at the first building on Blue Water Island, The Wharf Station. All the taxis and buses will also arrive here first and then connect directly to a tunnel towards the basement.

Private vehicles can also access the underground parking area of the residential buildings and retail and hospitality centres. This expansive tunnel extends under the main boulevard and divides the residential area and the retail and entertainment district. The core objective of this project is to minimize the traffic and promote a green, healthy and clean environment.

Nearby areas

The island is adjacent to JBR and enjoys proximity to Dubai Marina. The major highway, Sheikh Zayed Road connects residents and visitors to the mainland. Geographically, it can be spotted behind the new City Walk development in the Jumeirah area. One will also find it close to the entertainment hub, The Beach in Jumeirah Beach Residence.

If you are driving from the island, it will take around 7 minutes to reach Dubai Marina, the centre of high-life Dubai where you can access The Walk Marina and Dubai Marina Mall in about 12 to 14 minutes. Accessing the emirate’s centre, Downtown Dubai might take around 20 minutes.
